A murderous world

Morrissey: "We all live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead. Though that is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Shit every day."

These words really enraged people a few months ago. Why? They are obviously true: These companies torture and slaughter billions of individuals every year, for the sake of money. The animals are forced to live in lifelong agony and then brutally killed just because a teenager in Texas wants a hamburger. The revolting history of humandkind has never seen such violence before; violence so cruel, bloody and wide-ranging. We've tormented, raped and murdered, but never before have we done anything comparable to this. Killing 77 people is an atrocious act but compared to torturing billions that is... Maybe 'nothing' is not the right word. Everything is relative.

So why does the truth hurt?

Because we don't want someone to tell us we are rapists, torturers, and killers. We don't want to have anything to do with such words. We don't want to be Anders Behring Breivik - and we are not. We are cowards who look away and let the psychopaths do all the ugly stuff. Then we receive what they give us and act like nothing's happened. There's no such thing as the meat industry! If there is, it is not cruel! If it is, it's necessary! Shut up and let us have fun and enjoy our dismay over these exciting Norwegian massacres. We are not evil - can't you see how terrified we are?

Yes. You are not evil. You just let the evil happen. Even murdering is better than looking away.
